Our bespoke approach ensures that each gown is tailored not just to the brides measurements, but to her personality, story, and vision. From the first sketch to the final stitch, we make sure the gown is a true reflection of who she is and what she loves.
Suzie – Designer and Colour Analyst
In 2016 Suzie joined BOA with just a knack for conversation, laughter and an eye for uncovering the version of yourself that you didn’t know existed. Now ABIA awarded and colour analysis educated later, she is still dedicated to connecting with our clients on a personal level, making them feel special, unique and creating an unforgettable experience.
Siew – Designer and Tailor
Since BOA’s creation in 2001 Siew has been passionately dedicated to her tailoring craft, design skills, as a humble woman and proud grandmother of twins she understands the value of patience, a delicate approach and attention to detail.
Emma – Designer
In 2018, bright eyed and bushy tailed, Emma joined Siew and Suzie for a week of work experience, positively falling in love with fashion. After graduating Year 12 and exploring various career paths, the bridal industry kept calling her name (or was that Suzie offering her a job?) Emma understands the importance of cultural respect and style tied into one.
The History of BOA
2001
It is the year 2001, Siew Tan, our passionate tailor and owner, was looking for a new opportunity in her life and came across BOA. Just a year old in the industry, the owner didn’t have the drive to give BOA what it needed and sold it to Siew. From there, BOA continued its journey of being a stockist for various designers such as Rosa Clara, Prinovias and others. Siew curated the business, learning to tailor gowns and making dreams come true for brides all over Victoria and interstate. Employees would stay for years on end, one in particular with a 14 year career under the leadership of Siew. She nurtured her relationships, her skills and provided a warm, safe and home-like environment for her staff.
2015
In 2015, with local designer Lenka, Siew began moving into the custom space, her sister Bob – who lived in Malaysia, noticed a gap in the bridal market where brides could have a custom design, made to their body shape and have a unique gown, all their own! So she began a work-room, hiring many skilled and dedicated employees. In early 2016, Suzie joined the BOA team where Lenka aided Suzie in her learning, and with a natural flair for creativity she picked it up in no time, throwing herself into her career at BOA. By the end of 2017 Suzie was managing the boutique and hired a junior designer when Lenka decided to start her own tailoring business. BOA was in full swing! Bringing even more dreams to life.
2018
2018, Siew and Suzie get an email from Emma, a bright eyed and bushy tailed 17yo wanting to do her work experience in a bridal store, how could we say no! With the one week Emma was with the team, Suzie and Siew were beyond impressed and welcomed her back for various stints through the following years, helping out on Saturdays and filling in when there were staff holidays.
2019
In 2019 Bob and her entire work-room moved from Malaysia to Xiamen in China, where there was higher quality living, fabrics and a work life balance for her and her team. Every single one of her employees went on this journey and moved with her, seeing the opportunity for them and their families, thriving within a safe work environment, better wages and all around, fantastic life.
2020
2020 – COVID hits, what a time this was for BOA! With their doors forced closed and brides restricted from having their big days, the team took some time off to relax and rejuvenate, and of course, to continue to move appointments for their brides. When Victoria was finally re-opened, BOA came back, masks on and social distancing in place, still continuing to make dreams come true.
2024
2024 arrived and BOA’s building and home of 23 years was in bad shape, the structural integrity was failing and the interiors unable to be refined without thousands and thousands of dollars invested, but BOA didn’t want to over charge their brides to cover the cost, so the decision was made! The hunt for a new building was on. The junior designer made her next move into the jewellery space, so BOA’s favourite model and stylist Liz came on board to help Suzie while Emma was managing the Prahran Sportsgirl.
December 2024, through the Christmas break, Siew and Suzie found a building, and wow, what a building it was, not too far away from High street just down the road from the old store, Malvern became BOA’s new boutique. The time crunch was on, the team threw themselves head first into designing the new space and working with Alex Palmer to rebrand and give BOA the new fresh start it needed after so long. All while still in the busy season of designing and tailoring their brides gowns.
2025
May 2025 arrived, and BOA was finally in – albeit no curtains just yet but Suzie and Emma got in touch, she had decided to embark on her Bachelor of Fashion Design at RMIT and was more than happy to come back on board on a part time permanent basis!
This year has been filled with creating new designs, photoshoots, designing this new website and continuing to bring stunning, custom, unique, curated gowns for their stunning brides.
